Summer signings just not good enough.
Zaza is lost in our league. After Palace we hoped but still Bilic does not trust him to start, Feghouli never beats his man. Every cross is blocked. Does not track back.
Tore is not premier league standard, Arbeloa is past it.

Andre Ayew will be an asset when he is fit.
Fernandes looks promising but two decent games does not mean he should play every week. Callieri just read Zaza. Not even on the bench.

So who is to blame? Bilic, Sullivan, scouts.

Bilic is solely to blame.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
What I struggle with what we did over the summer is understand how many of the signings would actually fit in the team and our style of play?

I know many say they were squad fillers but who exactly would they be covering because very few appear a natural fit to cover to replace establish first XI players especially in the forward positions or good enough to warrant changing our style of play to accommodate them?

As it seems to me we have taken a punt on random players in the hope of uncovering a diamond rather than getting in the specific players the team actually needed to improve both quality and depth?

I think most of those were signed to cope with the Europa league fixtures! Apart from Ayew who has proven quality and Fernandes who has potential, they are all frees or loan to buy. I think Feghouli will come good though.

Our owners love to sell the sizzle but a hodge podge of loans and a 20 million from swansea dosent really show ambition.

The fuss that was made about Zaza was fucking hilarious and the very public Bacca transfer was beyond even West Hams level of retardary.

Given the move, the farewell party and the merchandise push the need to compete on the pitch seems to have gone by the wayside

Summer recruitment has been scandalous. 1 step forward and 3 back as usual. 6 years and still no decent, fit striker is unforgivable.

To add some perspective though, Man Utd blew £100m plus on players who look poor currently.

Can anyone actually remember when one of our strikers scored a goal last???

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
The summer signings have got Sullivan written all over them, loans etc, that are just not good enough, remember Mido who he thought was excellent business, cheaper than a plumber or some such shite! He panned Charlie Austen (publicly) for being injury prone, when he isn't.

Do Southampton/Liverpool/Spurs have a Director of football, perhaps its a line we should go down?

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
A lot of our problem is not spending enough. Ok bad choices in the summer haven't helped but bottom line is the top 4 spend massive amounts on both players and their wages. The West Ham wage bill for 2016 is 80 million.... man u, man city, arsenal and chelsea spend over 200 million each. Roman Abrahamovic has spent more than ONE BILLION POUNDS since he bought chelsea in 2003.

The irony is that Moses is looking pretty good as a wing back for Chelsea!!

Sakho vs Man Utd at home

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Didn't spend enough? We were 5th highest spenders in the league. We spent about £50m more than Liverpool or something like that.

Bottom line is most signings haven't performed, neither have many of last seasons players. it's Bilic who's accountable for that.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
They were determined to make Antonio into a RB, even though it was plain to see he wasn't one, and to fill his gap bought Tore and Feghouli. No where near his standard.

Zaza just does not show any evidence that he will fit in. Sure he tries, but it looks like he is just going through the motions. Feel we only have ten men on there when he is on.

Apart from Ayew, our bench looks quite weak and there is a dip down when we make the substitutions.

Even that Sakho goal got a deflection!!

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Our signings have been average, but we need to remember WHY.

1. OS-tinted specs assumed allcomers would fall before us, and we'd simply replicate last season's starting form. Despite Euros.

2. MOST signing were, I imagine, based on essentially having two DECENT teams - one for PL, one for Europa. Instead of an ever-improving FIRST team/squad. Soon as the latter went tits, all concerned realised we had a load of so-so backup - plus our two "talismen" injured on season start - that Bilic failed to get his head around. And still hasn't, with more injuries making situation worse.

We gambled. We lost. Object this season is simply to stay in the game/League. But rest assured, after such a false dawn, plenty will want to move on.

I try and avoid blaming individual people. But frankly, we had too many challenges to deal with before concentrating on the core team. We'll bounce back.

Re-stating the obvious, but it's worth reflecting on before calls to sack Bilic, Dimi and Doris,

Our summer recruitment has been pitiful.
Absolutely disgustingly bad.
There is no excuse for making so many poor signings.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
I thought our summer transfer net spend reaches £50m only if the Tore and Zaza transfers go through? I think there is no chance of that. I would think the net spend is more £20m excluding Lanzini.

Re: Summer signings just not good enough.
Thanks old geezer for this post. It was exactly what i said during the window when we didnt sign bacca. Players on the cheap and it is mainly because of the chairman penny pinching. Without a striker u cannot score goals, ayew is not a striker zaza is rubbish, this is the main reason we are struggling this season. Many posters on here should eaten humble pie.
